Downtown Colorado Springs UpaDowna Pedal Party
Wanna ride bikes? I grew up at a time when it was common for a neighborhood friend to show up at your door to ask this question. The reply was to run outside, jump on your bike (the cool kids had a banana seat!), and pedal off. We rode for hours, miles, and enjoyed every moment of freedom.
Wednesday evenings during the summer you can join in on a group bike ride Downtown Colorado Springs that feels sort of the same... with the exception of being able to have a beer ahead of time;). The staging area is in the alley behind Oskar Blues on Tejon St,, and most people go ahead of time to eat or have the aforementioned beer.
The ride is easy enough for all ages and biking abilities, and covers about six miles. Mostly flat, with just one big hill. You'll be tempted to get off and walk your bike- until a seven year old passes you. Put 'er into first gear and keep pedaling!
It's a fun group of people and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was one of two people NOT wearing a helmet, so will cave to positive peer pressure and buy one before the next ride. Riding in traffic warrants being as safe as possible!
The event starts at 5:30 with ride beginning right at 6pm. There are a limited number of bikes to borrow if you don't have your own, or prefer not to cart it downtown. You'll want to arrange that with the organizers ahead of time, as well as submit a waiver one time per season (link on FB page). I am super lucky to be able to ride over:)
Riding down Tejon St. is pretty cool; a different perspective than being in a car!
Some of the view along the way and from America the Beautiful Park
A nice rest and water break about halfway through... woo hoo!
